Car Seat - oh the woes

Addison is getting too long for her bucket seat, she is almost to the weight limit, and she hates to be reclined.  Costco sells $85.99 car seats that are both rear and forward facing.  We have to purchase two car seats because Oliver takes Addison to day care in one car and I pick her up...
I bought both car seats at the Lehi Costco (Sandy was out) on Tuesday and barely fit them into the Ford.  In fact, I had to take them out of the boxes and shove everything into the car.  We let Addison try out her new car seat on Wednesday night and she was so much happier to be sitting upright.
Oliver went to install them while I was at YW last night and they don't fit in either car!  She still needs to be rear facing and the instructions say the car seat is required to be fully reclined while it is rear facing.  Even with the seat all the way forward the car seat does not fit in either the Ford nor the Subaru.  Not to sure what our next plan is.  Oliver got online to try to find a solution and there were tons of similar complaints and even pictures showing that it doesn't fit in a van either...So we're still driving around with an unhappy girl while we try to find a better solution.

What kind of cars do you have? I've been able to fit a sunshine kids radian (really tall seat) in our cr-v. Also, with the new rec's to keep kids rfing until 2 you may want to make sure you get a good seat. I have heard good things about the cosco scenera (I think there is one for $40 at walmart, yep: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Scenera-5-Point-Convertible-Car-Seat-Black-Santee/13004563). Good luck, oh, some stores will let you try it out in your car if you give the store your drivers license.

Aah! THat sucks! We actually bought ours from someone who did the same thing and couldn't take it back. We haven't had to use it yet, and we were planning on just using it when we could seat it upright, but now all those studies say keep them babies reclined until they're two. hmmm. we'll see if we end up doing that ... good luck!

Can you borrow a baby carrier that accommodates a longer/heavier baby for a few more months? Most are rated for 20 something inches and less poundage...

Ours was rated up to 33 lbs and I can't remember the length but well beyond your average 1 year old...it was a graco quattro pro or something like that. Of course at this stage we just left it in the car and didn't attempt to carry the older and heavy baby (that would rather be sitting up most places) around in it!

We also purchased that seat from costco for Gavin and we found (well actually, Tim found) that he couldn't get it strapped in tight enough. (He is my car seat expert) So we went to Target and dropped the 179.99 (puke, puke) on the Safety 1st Montross Air Convertible Carseat. WE LOVE IT! It fits in the Tahoe well.
